What is Endoscopy?

SMVS now provides a 3meter fiberoptic endoscope  for diagnostic procedures including upper airway endoscopy, examination of the guttural pouches, and gastroscopy for stomach ulcers. Our equipment is wireless and battery operated, allowing us to perform in the most comfortable and convenient setting for you and your horse. Our video monitor allows you to see the images along with our doctors for your better understanding of the case.

• Need to know for your gastroscopy appointment:

Gastroscopy appointments are scheduled with two of our doctors and generally take place early in the morning. The procedure typically takes 15-30 minutes. Horses are given mild sedation that lasts the duration of the exam.
