Digital Imaging & Shockwave

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY
Radiographs or "X-Rays" have been a fundamental diagnostic tool in veterinary medicine for several decades. Our state of the art "Next Equine" Digital Imaging system allows our doctors at SMVS to capture and view radiographs within seconds, and with astounding image quality. Our portable cordless unit allows our doctors to quickly evaluate your horse without leaving the farm, whether during a prepurchase evaluation, acute lameness, or as a tool to aid hoof conformation with your farrier. After taking the radiographs, a copy of all images on a thumb drive are given to you before our doctors leave the farm.
DIGITAL ULTRASOUND
In the last 15 years, ultrasonography has become a vital diagnostic method for determining soft tissue injuries and disorders. Our Sonosite M-Turbo Digital Ultrasound system uses the latest hardware and software to give our doctors an ideal image of any soft tissues we need to visualize. Our equipment allows us to image a broad range of tissues, from the tendons and ligaments of the fetlock to an unborn foal in the abdomen. Our Digital systems also allow for quick image transfer over the internet to referral centers for specialist's opinions regarding treatment and prognosis.
EXTRACORPOREAL SHOCKWAVE THERAPY
Shockwave therapy is a relatively new ancillary treatment to aid the healing time and quality of many injuries and diseases in the horse. Sonoma Marin Veterinary Service is proud to offer the Neovet 2.0 Schockwave System. A high pressure sound wave or "shockwave" is produced and directed through a handheld probe to the site of injury. The shockwave travels through the skin and tissues to the damaged area. The pressure wave stimulates the healing process, decreases inflammation, and lessens pain in the area. Shockwave is beneficial for a variety of injuries and bodily pain. Multiple sites are effectively treated, including but not limited to back muscle and spine, collateral ligament injury, tendon/ligament injury, bone pain, and navicular syndrome. Due to its analgesic (pain killing) effects, some organizations (FEI, Racing Boards) have developed a withdrawal period before the horse is allowed to perform at shows. We commonly supplement our regenerative medicine treatments with shockwave to maximally stimulate healing. If you believe your horse would benefit from this therapy, please call to speak with one of our doctors.
